Zehnder ComfoAir Q balanced ventilation with heat recovery helps limit overheating in buildings

Zehnder ComfoAir Q balanced ventilation with heat recovery helps limit overheating in buildings
Today, the seasons are completely disrupted by global warming. Every year, summers are getting hotter and the heat persists for ever longer periods. Temperatures are often higher inside a building than outside, causing discomfort for occupants. Air conditioning, which consumes a great deal of energy and causes respiratory conditions, cannot be the solution to this overheating issue. A different approach is needed. Zehnder ComfoAir Q balanced ventilation solutions and their add-on modules offer many advantages for cooling high-performance buildings (detached houses, small multi-family housing or office buildings), in both new construction and renovation, while protecting residents' health.

In this respect, the Zehnder ComfoAir Q 350 is the first balanced ventilation unit to be certified in the ?Very hot climate? category by the PassivHaus Institut.

With a cooling recovery rate of 87%, Zehnder ComfoAir Q 350 is the first balanced ventilation unit to be certified in the ?Very hot climate? category by the PassivHaus Institut.

A real alternative to air conditioning for reducing overheating in buildings

Beyond its benefits for indoor air quality and energy performance, Zehnder ComfoAir Q balanced ventilation solutions are a genuine alternative to air conditioning.

Cooling in summer
Just as it recovers heat in winter, balanced ventilation recovers coolness in summer. The incoming and extracted airflows are kept separate, but as they cross through very fine channels in a heat exchanger system, the cool outgoing air cools the incoming air. This is cooling recovery. This solution helps maintain a comfortable temperature in the home, even during periods of intense heat.

Recovering heat in winter
In winter, Zehnder balanced ventilation systems recover heat thanks to the heat exchanger system. The incoming and extracted airflows are kept separate, but as they cross through very fine channels, the incoming cold air recovers the heat from the outgoing air (up to 97% thermal recovery according to NF 205). Heat loss is thus considerably limited, ensuring both energy savings and reduced CO2 emissions. This system is particularly effective for high-performance new or renovated homes.

Adjusting heat or coolness in mid-season with Zehnder ComfoAir Q balanced ventilation systems

With global warming, temperatures can vary widely during the mid-season periods. Whether you need coolness or warmth, with Zehnder ComfoAir Q balanced ventilation systems the choice is left to the occupant: they set the comfort temperature themselves according to 3 profiles. The modulating bypass then adjusts to it. It regulates heat recovery to the exact degree and thus influences the temperature of the fresh air depending on outdoor conditions.

- ?Warm Profile?, for warmer fresh air temperatures (around 20°, depending on needs),
- ?Medium Profile?,
- ?Cool Profile?, for cooler fresh air temperatures (18°).

The enthalpy heat exchanger to counter the sensation of heat. In summer, air humidity makes it feel hotter than it really is. Available as an option, the Zehnder enthalpy heat exchanger helps combat humidity in summer, given that the ideal humidity level recommended by experts is between 40 and 60%. Zehnder enthalpy exchangers are made using a patented polymer membrane technology that transfers both heat and moisture from one airflow to the other. The level of heat, coolness and moisture recovery is controlled by the initial choice of temperature profile.

The Zehnder ComfoFond L-Q earth-air heat exchanger to use ground inertia as a renewable energy

The Zehnder ComfoFond L-Q earth-air heat exchanger uses the constant temperature of the ground via a glycol-water circuit to preheat outdoor air in winter, temper it and dehumidify it. This sustainable resource makes it possible to do without an electric preheater in winter and at the same time supplies cool fresh air in summer. Zehnder ComfoFond L-Q is installed and controlled next to the Zehnder ComfoAir Q ventilation unit. It operates with only a very slight increase in energy consumption, with high performance:
- Heat production: for 600m3/h 2,8kW
- Cooling production: for 600m3/h 2,9kW

The Zehnder ComfoCool-LQ cooling unit (heat pump) to increase cooling capacity

Zehnder ComfoCool L-Q is a heat pump that cools indoor air. Combined with the Zehnder ComfoAir Q 600 balanced ventilation unit, it distributes cool air throughout the home and saves space during installation. Cooling the home in summer and retaining heat in winter while protecting occupants' health and the planet, Zehnder balanced ventilation systems have all the strengths needed to meet the new requirements.
