Rector upgrades its thermal break system with ThermoPrédalle® BA0,45

Scheduled for 2020, the environmental regulation for new buildings (RE2020) aims to make passive and energy-positive buildings the norm and to reduce their carbon footprint. In this context, thermal breaks are increasingly favored by builders. Rector is therefore upgrading its offer for multi-family housing and commercial buildings with internal insulation with the ThermoPrédalle® BA 0,45. This new prefabricated floor solution with integrated thermal breaks guarantees the thermal performance of all constructions, with or without a balcony, regardless of the level, the seismic zone and the span direction.
The ThermoPrédalle® BA 0,45 is the new patented thermal break system developed by Rector, which treats heat loss at the floor-to-wall junction more effectively and thus meets the requirements of the upcoming RE2020.
With thermal performance improved by 25 % and the ability to treat all floor levels (lower intermediate, upper, flat roof) in all configurations, including balconies, Rector's ThermoPrédalle® BA 0,45 guarantees healthy and durable buildings.
As demonstrated by a thermal loss simulation study carried out by an engineering consultancy, the impact of the ThermoPrédalle® BA 0,45 on the energy consumption and carbon emissions of a building in which all floor thermal bridges are treated is significant. Thus, the ThermoPrédalle® BA 0,45:
• enables a reduction in emissions of up to 70 kg CO /m2/50 years, i.e. 5 % of the building's CO emissions,
• reduces energy consumption by up to 6kWhEP/m2/an, i.e. 10 % of the building's annual consumption,
• prevents mold growth by greatly reducing the risk of condensation around cold spots, particularly at balconies, thus contributing to indoor air quality,
• standardizes the performance of all housing units in the same building, thus avoiding oversizing the heating systems of those whose thermal bridges have not been treated.
The ThermoPrédalle® BA 0,45 is suitable for all seismic zones in mainland France. Based on experimental test results, the studies carried out by Rector's R&D department have demonstrated the robustness of the connection with the ThermoPrédalle® BA 0,45 system. The latter does not alter the overall behavior of buildings and meets the verification criteria for seismic situations in mainland France. The stresses induced in the ribs by the thermal gradient and shrinkage are addressed through construction provisions depending on whether the walls are reinforced concrete or masonry.
All the performance of the ThermoPrédalle® BA 0,45 is validated by an Experimental Technical Assessment (ATEx type a no. 2647) issued on 2 December 2018 by the CSTB. The system has also undergone a fire test resulting in a laboratory assessment with an REI 120.
Thanks to its thermal breaks integrated during factory manufacturing, Rector's ThermoPrédalle® BA 0,45 is as easy to install as a standard precast slab. No handling of the thermal breaks is required, which saves time on site.
Made mainly of expanded perlite and cellulose fibers, the thermal breaks are protected by a protective film and by water-repellent lightweight concrete plates, thus preventing any damage to the insulation during floor installation. Reinforced concrete ribs fitted with reinforcement cages ensure the transfer of vertical and horizontal forces.
Before delivery, the Rector design office prepares the layout of the thermal breaks and precast slabs, then sends an installation plan to the structural works contractor. This plan provides all the instructions for building the floor in the order and direction of progress previously agreed with the site manager.
Rector also offers site start-up assistance to support and train structural works contractors in installing the ThermoPrédalle® BA 0,45.
To configure the ThermoPrédalle® BA 0,45 according to the specific requirements of each site, Rector offers assistance packs and services for balcony treatment and seismic modeling.
Designed for buildings with concrete and/or masonry walls, the Balcony Connection Pack includes ribs with reinforcement specifically sized for balconies, as well as a balcony reinforcement sizing note for the structural design office. For sites located in seismic zones 3 and 4, the Rector design office carries out the sizing and verification of the ribs under seismic load using finite element modeling.
With the new ThermoPrédalle® BA 0,45, Rector guarantees the structural performance of all new multi-family and commercial buildings, with installation up to twice as fast as with a cast-in-place floor.
