Designed for the construction of single-storey detached houses, this new building solution goes well beyond the requirements of the RE2020 and offers real economic benefits. In addition to providing a durable and comfortable home, the Ytong Compact 15 block is 10% more insulating and 21% thinner than traditional masonry. As a result, it significantly reduces heating and air conditioning bills and increases the living space for the same footprint!

Today, in the detached house construction market, the new Ytong Compact 15 autoclaved aerated concrete block is certainly one of the best alternatives to traditional masonry. Its low carbon footprint and intrinsic qualities make it possible to address economic, energy and environmental challenges. Franck Boissel, manager of Quercy Habitat, a company specialising in low-energy house construction, which built the first Ytong Compact 15 house in Belfort-du-Quercy (Lot), confirms this: ?Today, with the RE2020, we are asked to provide products that consume even less energy. New Ytong Compact 15 autoclaved aerated concrete block

Xella can now meet the needs of all detached house projects in autoclaved aerated concrete. For multi-storey houses and in seismic zones, the Ytong Compact 20 block is ideal. And to achieve even greater savings on the construction of single-storey detached houses outside seismic zones, Xella has developed the Ytong Compact 15 block.

More living space for the same footprint

21% thinner than traditional masonry, Ytong Compact 15 walls increase the living area (SHAB) of a building by up to 2,8 m² for a 100 m2 house, while being 10% more insulating*. For Franck Boissel, manager of Quercy Habitat and a long-time advocate of autoclaved aerated concrete building solutions, the Ytong Compact 15 block clearly helps optimise living space. ?I was won over by the product because the blocks are thinner, which will allow us to optimise the living space. On this first project, we kept the same footprint, but thanks to this masonry we were able to increase the floor area of the house!?

Summer comfort compliant with the RE2020

100% mineral, Ytong Compact 15 autoclaved aerated concrete is a true hygrothermal membrane. Its excellent thermal inertia and very good time lag (10h) form an optimal barrier against temperature changes. Ytong Compact 15 walls have a regulating effect and improve summer comfort by protecting the house from summer heat and shielding it from harsh winters, a considerable asset with heatwaves becoming ever more frequent. ?Being in a hot region, when I offer autoclaved aerated concrete, I promise my customers better summer comfort, a point that features strongly in the new regulations. They are very satisfied with it,? adds Franck Boissel. ?Offering a product with high inertia and a longer time lag than other materials helps us achieve better summer comfort.?

Energy performance exceeding the requirements of the RE2020

Solid and massive, the Ytong Compact 15 block offers excellent thermal insulation. With its 15 cm thickness, it is the best-performing option for achieving Bbio -30% with an R* of 1,36. Perfectly airtight, it guarantees insulating walls that require no additional insulation material. And a better-insulated house significantly reduces heating and air conditioning bills, an important argument in the face of the energy crisis.

Combined with 120 mm of ITI insulation, the Ytong Compact 15 block is the only building solution whose thermal performance delivers a detached house that is 10% better insulated than other solutions on the market. Finally, being vapour-permeable, it promotes moisture evacuation, providing a healthy home and better quality of life for occupants. With the Ytong Compact 15 block, 26% of the wall insulation is guaranteed for life.

From autoclaved aerated concrete to an economical material

Made up of 80% air, autoclaved aerated concrete allows for lighter constructions than with a conventional material. The ergonomics, light weight and reduced thickness of Ytong Compact 15 blocks simplify installation, reduce physical strain and make renovations easier. Autoclaved aerated concrete offers better control of construction costs compared with traditional masonry construction. Autoclaved aerated concrete is a durable material, made from natural, mineral raw materials, 25% of which come from recycled raw materials. Its industrial production is low in energy consumption and its installation generates less waste and uses fewer resources (materials and water). As a result, the Ytong Compact 15 block has a good carbon footprint and accounts for only 5% of the total CO2 impact of a house.
