MEWA Dynamic Construct: workwear designed for women in the skilled trades

MEWA Dynamic Construct workwear

Clothing designed for women tradespeople
Moulins, March 2019. Painters, plumbers, electricians: long dominated by men, the skilled trades are becoming more feminized. Over ten years, the Fédération Française du Bâtiment (FFB) has recorded continuous growth in the number of women working in the construction sector. But when it comes to workwear, women are still far too often at a disadvantage. In many companies, they have to make do with men's or unisex models for their jackets, trousers or shoes. This is far from satisfactory.

Yet workwear designed for the female body does exist. ?Workwear for women has a different cut from men's models. It must fulfil its protective function in every situation, but also offer a certain level of comfort,? notes Philipp Mell, Managing Director of MEWA France.

Well-fitting clothing is essential for safety
The cut is not only essential for ensuring comfort and freedom of movement, but is also an important factor in enhancing safety. A unisex garment (jacket or trousers) can be too long or too loose. In that case, the outfit is not only uncomfortable but also poses a significant safety risk. ?A woman who works eight hours a day just like her male counterpart needs workwear that meets her needs for comfort and functionality. Only under these conditions can she work productively and safely,? Philipp Mell continues.

Safety shoes designed for women's feet
The same applies to safety shoes. Women tradespeople who work on a construction site, for example, are only sure-footed if their shoes fit them perfectly and are comfortable. Men's versions are generally not suited to women's narrower feet. Yet women are obliged to wear these S3 class shoes, which are mandatory in many fields. The alternative? Shoes made from women's lasts. Perfectly adapted to the anatomy of the female foot, they provide comfort and safety, and come in stylish models. This is why MEWA also offers its customers occupational protection items such as safety shoes specially designed for women.

?We understood that for women tradespeople, in their daily work on the construction site or in the company, it is essential to wear perfectly fitting workwear. We therefore developed the MEWA Dynamic collection of jackets and trousers dedicated to women,? explains Philipp Mell. The women's outfit offers great freedom of movement and functional details. Loops hold tools and pockets provide ample storage space for small items. Their modern design is reminiscent of trendy outdoor clothing.

Outfits with the usual full service
Companies can now equip their male and female employees with similar outfits and thus benefit from a uniform visual identity. MEWA also offers workwear for women with its usual full service, which includes washing, care, collection and delivery, as well as garment repair. Moreover, it is worthwhile involving women in the analysis and design of employees' outfits, because they know best what they require from their workwear. The textile service provider MEWA is able to bring its full expertise to this area.
