uvex launches its new uvex silv-Air 2310 planet protective mask

A European specialist in personal protective equipment (PPE), uvex is unveiling its uvex silv-Air 2310 planet respiratory protection mask and is now incorporating recycled components across its entire range. This advance is part of an ambitious sustainability strategy rolled out across the group, with the goal of increasing the share of bio-based or recycled materials in its products by 20 % by 2030, while achieving carbon neutrality by 2045.

uvex silv-Air 2310 planet: a FFP3 mask combining high protection and environmental performance
The uvex silv-Air 2310 planet mask has been designed to significantly reduce its environmental footprint. It is made of 26,5 % recycled materials, in accordance with standard EN ISO 14021, which calculates this share based on the total mass of the product. Its exhalation valve is made of 95 % recycled ABS, sourced mainly from automotive components such as car headlight covers, while its straps are made of 100 % recycled polypropylene, coming in particular from detergent drawers of household appliances. The entire packaging has also been optimized in line with this eco-design approach. The polyethylene bag containing the mask is now made of 30 % recycled materials, which contributes to improving the overall environmental profile of the product. Thanks to all of these measures, the Cradle-to-grave carbon footprint (from manufacturing to end of life) of the uvex silv-Air 2310 planet mask is reduced by 12 % compared with an equivalent mask containing no recycled materials, i.e. 0,18kg out of CO2. As an example, a person using one mask per working day uses on average 225 masks per year. Thanks to the reduction of 30 grams of CO? per mask, this represents an annual saving of 6,75 kilograms of CO?, equivalent to a car journey of 70 kilometers.

Designed to ensure maximum effectiveness against respiratory hazards while meeting growing sustainability requirements, the uvex silv-Air 2310 planet mask embodies a new generation of more responsible personal protective equipment. It filters particles, dust and toxic aerosolized droplets up to 30 times the occupational exposure limit. This high filtration capacity makes it a particularly recommended solution in case of exposure to carcinogenic substances, as well as pathogens such as viruses, bacteria or fungal spores. It can also be used in sensitive environments such as work involving hardwood, chromium or asbestos.

An approach aligned with the group's environmental commitments
Building on the uvex silv-Air 2310 planet mask, the entire range of uvex masks – shell and foldable, categories FFP1, FFP2 and FFP3 – now incorporates recycled materials, with an average rate of 30,2 %. This average, higher than that of the uvex silv-Air 2310 planet mask, is explained in particular by the presence of heavier components on some models (such as the valve), which allow a greater share of recycled content in relative terms.

This evolution in product design fits fully within the ambitious CSR strategy of the uvex group, which intends to make eco-responsibility a pillar of its long-term development. One of the major objectives set by the company is to increase the share of bio-based and recycled materials in its products by 20 % by 2030, using the 2020/2021 financial year as the reference year. This approach is also accompanied by a clear commitment to the climate, with a defined trajectory towards carbon neutrality by 2045. This deliberately early target precedes by five years the deadlines set by the European Green Deal, reflecting the group's determination to stay ahead of regulatory requirements.
