The design of the Nuki Smart Lock 2.0 wins a Red Dot Award

The design of the Nuki Smart Lock 2.0 wins a Red Dot Award
The Nuki Smart Lock, which is installed on the existing lock on the inside of the door, has won a Red Dot Award for its avant-garde design. For many years, the Red Dot Design Awards have honored products with the most successful design. It is a universally recognized award. The jury carries out an evaluation over several days and also relies on criteria such as functionality, build quality, durability and ergonomics. Nuki is proud to announce that the Smart Lock 2.0 has received a Red Dot Award 2020 in the product design category.

A smart lock worth showing off

The Smart Lock 2.0 is installed on the existing lock on the inside of the door, in most cases without even changing the cylinder*. A smart lock, whatever it may be, must be compatible with the interior decor of the home or apartment, which is a real challenge given how different styles can be.

Nuki opted for a clean design that stylizes a lock through the harmony between a cylindrical shape and a cubic body with rounded corners. The silver and black color combination also contributes to the understated look and the premium feel of the product. On the front, the aluminum ring surrounding the LED circle helps create a unique design that also reflects the quality level of Nuki products. As a result, the Smart Lock 2.0 blends perfectly into the interior decor and even becomes a design object in its own right. This is what won over the Red Dot Awards jury.

A unique smart lock concept

The design of the Smart Lock was developed in partnership with the Viennese design studio EOOS, which came up with the idea of ?poetic analysis? to develop an overall design concept inherent to each product. EOOS has developed store concepts for prestigious brands such as Adidas and Giorgio Armani. The design studio has designed products and furniture for renowned brands such as Alessi, Duravit and Moroso.

Jürgen Pansy, in charge of product development at Nuki, says: ?A product is only successful if it combines functionality and design. When users enjoy using the product, it means its design and concept are successful.?

Harald Gründl, designer at EOOS, states for his part: ?For us, a successful product design must have a poetic component. The Smart Lock creates a link between the analog and the digital, two worlds between which users are constantly torn. The beauty of the Smart Lock is that it brings the two together.?

An intelligent smart lock

As a reminder, the Smart Lock 2.0 installs in a few minutes and requires no holes, drilling or screwdriver. Communication with the smartphone app takes place via Bluetooth through a secure data exchange. The door can be opened using the smartphone app, but also automatically as soon as the authorized person is in front of the door. Users can also grant permissions to people of their choice, either permanently or for a limited time.
