Goodyear innovates in tire performance management for civil engineering equipment

Civil engineering: Goodyear unveils two digital innovations to reduce operating costs
Goodyear Proactive Solutions TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) Heavy Duty is a solution based on continuous data analysis. It enables precise, real-time tire monitoring. Combined with Goodyear premium tires and services, it gives companies operating civil engineering machinery the ability to optimize tire performance, reduce downtime and improve total cost of ownership. Goodyear TPMS Heavy Duty continuously monitors inflation pressures. This prevents tire-related incidents, reduces machine downtime and breakdown costs, and increases machine uptime by 15%. It avoids 85% of tire-related incidents.

New version of EMTrack, the civil engineering tire performance management system. This new version of the EMTrack system enables faster collection of key data such as tread depth, inflation pressure and other indicators, which help keep tires operational in hostile environments and optimize their service life, facilitating predictive maintenance, replacement forecasting and budget management.

Goodyear Proactive Solutions
Following the launch of Goodyear Proactive Solutions for truck fleets in 2016, Goodyear is now offering these connected management solutions for civil engineering machinery.
From racing to aircraft and lunar vehicles, in 120 years of innovation, Goodyear has always been involved in creating new forms of mobility. Goodyear Proactive Solutions fits perfectly into this tradition of innovation.

?Recent advances in connectivity allow us to provide additional services to our customers to optimize their tire fleets and reduce their costs. Civil engineering machines operate in the harshest environments, and tires are an essential, sensitive part of them. Goodyear Proactive Solutions TPMS Heavy Duty therefore helps prevent pressure loss, which is very common. Did you know that a tire underinflated by 50% can reduce tire life by 72%?? explains David Anckaert, Vice President of the Industrial Tire division at Goodyear Europe. ?Goodyear Proactive Solutions TPMS Heavy Duty provides real-time temperature and measures pressure. Goodyear's predictive algorithm can then calculate the tire's service life. This gives our civil engineering customers peace of mind and contributes to a very good return on investment on their tire budget.?

Goodyear Proactive Solutions TPMS Heavy Duty uses the latest telematics systems and patented predictive analytics technology. It continuously measures tire inflation pressure and temperature. It informs operators of potential problems before they occur. This makes it possible to anticipate risk situations and act early to avoid breakdowns and machine stoppages. The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) sensors mounted inside the tire transmit information from the vehicle to a central Goodyear server. An algorithm specially developed by Goodyear analyzes the data and information provided to identify potential problems in advance and predict tire life. The results are sent to the operator so that a maintenance intervention can be scheduled.

The potential savings with Goodyear Proactive Solutions TPMS Heavy Duty can be significant. For example, for a loader this can represent annual savings of around 3 000 to 4 000 euros. This is explained by the end of manual pressure checks, by an increase in tire life of 10 to 15%, and by the near elimination of tire failures, which generally occur once a year or more often depending on how harsh the terrain is.

By using Goodyear Proactive Solutions, estimated savings can amount to more than 71 000 ?/ and illustrate the advantage of a five-year contract offered by Goodyear. One example is the Dutch company ESD-SIC, which operates four wheel loaders with the Goodyear Proactive Solutions TPMS Heavy Duty contract. The savings come from 1100?/year from ending pressure checks twice a month, 9 700 ? / year from eliminating tire failures (historically one event per year) and 17 600 ? thanks to tire life extension of between 10% and 15%1.

Another advantage of Goodyear Proactive Solutions TPMS Heavy Duty is the Track & Trace system, an integrated GPS function that allows fleet managers to locate machines. It helps prevent unnecessary or unauthorized movements, or the theft of a machine.

For efficient operation, maintaining the correct tire inflation pressure is essential to benefit from optimal vehicle performance. Incorrect tire pressure reduces tire life, increases failures, affects machine stability and wastes fuel. The earlier a potential problem is identified, the lower the risk of a costly and unforeseen intervention or breakdown, which avoids unnecessary downtime and costly long-term damage.

The maintenance reports generated by Goodyear Proactive Solutions help increase tire uptime, improve durability, achieve optimal performance levels, reduce maintenance costs and improve retreadability. These maintenance reports make it possible to schedule maintenance only on the tires that really need it, which saves time and money.

Goodyear Proactive Solutions is available for all off-road machines, from dump trucks to wheel loaders and from graders to mobile cranes. Goodyear Proactive Solutions is available in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

Goodyear EMTrack
Goodyear is expanding its offering dedicated to civil engineering fleets, including construction companies, with the new version of EMTrack, its tire program performance management system. This software collects information on the machine fleet, type of use, speed, weather conditions, terrain, tires, their wear, number of operating hours, pressures and rims in order to optimize tire life and to anticipate and budget tire needs.

EMTrack is available worldwide for construction, mining, quarry and port applications.

Goodyear Proactive Solutions TPMS Heavy Duty - How does it work?
TPMS sensors, which measure both tire pressure and temperature, are mounted on each tire. The signals emitted by each of these sensors are received by an on-board router, which continuously sends this information to the Goodyear server via the mobile network. This data is then analyzed by Goodyear algorithms using G-Predict technology developed by a team of Goodyear specialists. The server sends daily reports by e-mail to the fleet manager.

In the event of a potential incident, the server sends a real-time alert to the fleet manager by e-mail and/or via an app, visually indicating the tire concerned and the severity level of the problem. The TPMS sensors can be transferred to other tires when they are replaced.

The router embedded in the system has an integrated GPS Track & Trace function. It makes it possible to identify a machine in order to locate it on a site or in case of theft.
In 2018, further features will arrive: Goodyear will launch an app for drivers, so that they will have the same real-time information.

Goodyear EMTrack - How does it work?
Goodyear technicians have a handheld device to measure inflation pressure and tread depth more quickly and accurately. The data collected is automatically uploaded via Bluetooth to the Cloud, on a password-protected secure data storage site. Thanks to the new Goodyear EMTrack app, customers can download real-time, easy-to-read and customizable reports describing tire performance. Tires can be tracked according to their use, whether in service, in inventory or removed from service. EMTrack can also help predict tire longevity in terms of hours, cost and wear. This facilitates forecasting and accurate budgeting.
