Through a project of cutting-edge and sophisticated aesthetic, Antonio Ruiz Rubio, has become one of the finalists at the 10th PORCELANOSA Grupo Architecture and Interior Design Awards, in the completed projects category. His project consists of a single-family home with impressive architecture, where the exterior space blends in perfectly with the interior. This is all about a design that is aimed at becoming a place of relaxation and enjoyment for all the family. Flexibility, fusion and elegance are some of the values provided by this structure that is situated in Huelva, Andalucía.
The project
The house is spread out over two floors with a porch area, a chill-out area and a leisure pool. These are some of the spaces that the architect has brought together under the same aesthetic. The house seems like a part of the exterior setting through an uneven floor which blends in with the water from the pool, along with a porch that plays a major role because it works as the entrance hall of the building.
Open on both sides, the 5.5m high porch offers a full view of the exterior from the house, and it provides a view with great perspective, together with a feeling that stirs up emotions. This structure, apart from its unquestionable architectural beauty, can be closed off in the winter months, acting as a type of natural heating, functionally speaking; whereas in the summer months, it provides pleasant shade which moderates the arcaded outdoor area around the house.
The materials
Antonio Ruiz Rubio banks on an integral concept which focuses on the synergy of shapes and materials. PORCELANOSA Grupo’s presence plays a major role when opting for each of the flooring and bathroom equipment in the project.
It is worth highlighting the ston-ker Arizona ceramic floor tile in the project, in other words, material inspired by natural stone which has been used for both the ground floor and terrace interiors. The versatility, inalterability and resistance of this type of floor make it the perfect resource for the interior of the house, as well as for the spaces that are prone to severe weather conditions.
Furthermore, this ceramic stone offers the possibility of having an anti-slip treatment included, therefore, it becomes the ideal porcelain tile for around the pool and its interior area, too. Thanks to this property, on one hand, the architect has achieved in providing a feeling of infinite deepness between the housing and the exterior; and on the other hand, he has also enhanced the architectural concept of the floor integration into the water in the pool.
With regard to the other part of the house, other type of elements have been used, such as the Par-ker Oxford Cognac ceramic parquet flooring installed on the top floor of the house; or the Newport Beige or Village Blanco ceramic wall tiles in the bathrooms; among others. It is specifically in the latter room, which was geared towards calmness and comfort, where the architect banked on designs from different collections, along with the most cutting-edge technology, therefore, creating bathrooms full of character and personality.
The basins from the Kole collection and the wall-hung sanitaryware from the Forma and Hotels collections are complemented with the Smart Line and Smart Box by Noken, the firm specialised in bathroom equipment. The special feature regarding these systems is that they remain hidden behind the wall, therefore, enhancing the feeling of minimalism, elegance and cleanliness in the bathroom. This way, the pieces of the design themselves take on more importance.
