The 10th PORCELANOSA Awards Finalists in Forward-Looking Projects

Creating spaces which are inspiring and make working easier through harmony, movement and the free flow of ideas, turns out to be the key principles of the project by Ángela Acevedo del Álamo and her 3a Interiorismo studio, a work space finalist at the 10th PORCELANOSA Grupo Architecture and Interior Design Awards in the Forward-Looking projects, in the Professional category. This is an architecture project which was framed in the very heart of Manhattan, whose appeal is certainly the break with architecture and the shapes involving the atmosphere, articulated in a circular two-storey building where functionality and simplicity go together.

The project
The interior designer, Ángela Acevedo del Álamo, carries out a daring design when banking on a balanced structure which inspires peace and quiet.

The project joins light, nature and curved lines, taking full advantage of the natural light provided by the atmosphere thanks to the open shape of the building and the inclusion of large wide horizontal windows which go along the façade. The separating walls and wavy-lined furniture, provide the space with dynamism and fluidity.

In this regard, the aim of the Cantabrian studio is to find the employees’ maximum performance by facilitating communication fluidity between the work and leisure areas, both of them coming together perfectly.

The uniqueness of the architectural framework becomes the main attraction in the work space. Visible from the main access, the reception, lifts and staircases are framed inside a large cylinder. By following the way offered by the space, the natural connection is with the work area and the meeting room, file room and toilets.

The access to the second floor is gained by following a circular traffic flow, through which we can get to the rest area, kitchen and dining room. In order to complete the project, Ángela Acevedo del Álamo includes a leisure area which is provided with dressing rooms, a SPA, a swimming pool and a gym, and its access is independent. Pure luxury so that workers can switch off from their work, as well as switching on again in a normal working week.

The materials
In order to bring this project to life, the Cantabrian interior designer has banked on materials from the PORCELANOSA Grupo which are inspired by natural wood and marble, as well as by the perfect combination of them together with the KRION® Solid Surface mineral compact.

Firstly, through the whole building, and with regard to the floor tiles, one can find the Kala White and Basic Snow XLight porcelain tile by Urbatek, imitating the purity and simplicity of marble. Secondly, the advanced Linkfloor vinyl flooring by L’Antic Colonial is found in the work space. Both materials set up a space which is resistant to abrasion, impacts, humidity, stains and the action of chemical products, something which is ideal for work spaces. Additionally, natural wood is also present thanks to the Advanced Premium Auckland parquet, from L’Antic Colonial, thus creating a warm natural atmosphere.

As far as bathrooms are concerned, the Essential Hexagon Silver Good flooring by L’Antic Colonial has been installed on the ground floor, whereas on the first floor it is the rectified Barcelona E porcelain tile by Venis that has been installed. Both of them go with the Moon Marmara and the Glaze Dots White Matt wall tiles, also from L’Antic Colonial.

The studio has opted for the use of wall tiles aimed at creating elegant spaces, with a high visual impact which banks on volumetry. This is the reason why in the office areas and meeting room, the Taco Oxford Natural mosaic from Porcelanosa and the Faces S3 Negro ceramic wall tile from L’Antic Colonial have been the choice.

In the dressing room one can find the Manhattan Cognac PAR-KER ceramic wall tile, an unchanging material inspired by the fineness and the calmness feeling of wood, which has the properties of the ceramic: those of resistance for traffic areas, anti-humidity, anti-bacterial, and practically zero maintenance.

The KRION® Solid Surface acrylic stone is the ground-breaking element in the design thanks to its thermocurving properties, lightness and high resistance. It is a material which is able to make what is unimaginable a reality, materialised in separating walls, a cylinder-shaped lattice, and furniture for both the outdoors and the indoors, whose customised design is inspired by elements from nature such as water or vegetation.

In conclusion, the 3a interiorismo studio has created a rounded architectural design where every detail is a part of everything without leaving any item to chance.
