CLIMAmur® by Wienerberger SAS: the first terracotta brick with thermal insulation High-performance climatic distribution
Monday, April 7, 2014Description :
Since January 2014, Wienerberger SAS, with Porotherm, its brand dedicated to terracotta bricks, offers a new structuring of its offer by simple identifications, depending on the destination of the building. Thus, the HomeBrick offer is destined naturally for the individual house and the CITIbric offer concerns the collective.

Optimally completing its HomeBrick offering, Porotherm will once again create the event this year with the launch of its new CLIMAmur® range.

This offer of bricks with Thermal Insulation Distributed terracotta with reinforced insulation, 100% natural and 100% mineral, is intended especially for commercial buildings and high-end single-family home. Discovery...

CLIMAmur®: a new generation brick for all-season comfort

A solution that is both self-supporting and self-insulating, CLIMAmur® does not require any additional insulation doubling due to its high thermal inertia. In response to the application of the RT 2012, and even ahead of passive and positive energy standards (Bepos), Wienerberger proposes a complete range that is available in 30, 36 and 42 cm wide: CLIMAmur® 30, 36 and 42.

These CLIMAmur®, thus claim optimal thermal performance with, for example, CLIMAmur® thickness of 30 R = 3.85 m².K / W, thickness 36, R = 4.64 m².K / W and thickness 42 R = 5.44 m².K / W!

The origin of this optimal insulating power: a wise concept created by Wienerberger, 100% natural and 100% mineral composed of a brick combining a terracotta structure, to regulate temperature and humidity and alveoli filled with wool Rock for high thermal performance creating a wall with high thermal inertia.

The terracotta framework regulates temperature and humidity spontaneously and optimally. Encapsulated in the alveoli of the terracotta brick, rock wool forms a powerful complementary mineral insulator, reinforcing the fight against thermal losses at all the singular points of a building.

The large inertial capacity of the CLIMAmur®, a true thermal regulator, is thus the source of optimum comfort in all seasons, since this solid wall (315 kg / m²) makes it possible to store according to the season, heat or freshness, Then to restore it diffusely. The source of a constant well-being, in summer, note that the gain of freshness ensured by CLIMAmur® can reach up to 4 ° C!

Another advantage: thanks to their thickness, CLIMAmur® bricks leave room for a simple and effective insulation of the heads of floors, close to the values ??of the external insulation. On this subject, it should be pointed out that calculations by the Scientific and Technical Center for Buildings lead to a thermal bridge five times lower than the level required by the RT 2012 (chaining, tables, lintels, intermediate floors, angles, stiffeners, openings ... )!

And since the RT 2012 also takes into account the air-tightness in its calculations, the CLIMAmur® coated bricks guarantee the absence of air flow between the outside and the inside (without membranes or Scotch).

CLIMAmur®: a guarantee of perennial construction

Porotherm's CLIMAmur® range is a guarantee of the durability of the structures. Resistant, the terracotta bricks can indeed withstand up to 20 tons per meter, an asset of undeniable weight.

Equipped with a particularly high mechanical strength, the CLIMAmur® brick also conforms to earthquake regulations thanks to its implementation principle and its range of accessories.

The CLIMAmur® range also displays a valuable weather advantage: it is totally insensitive to flooding and water damage. Indeed, after drying, the brick will recover all its properties, unlike most other building materials. Classified REI 60 and A1 (totally non-combustible), it also resists fire without releasing toxic gases and is even a barrier against the spread of fires.

Lastly, terracotta is a natural barrier against rodents, termites and fungal development such as merula, preserving the real estate from harmful degradation.

In short, CLIMAmur® is a promise of longevity of the habitat and profitability of the investment over several generations, for a heritage that retains all its value in case of transmission or resale.

The guarantee of a healthy environment with a perspiring wall

With a lowest equilibrium moisture content of all materials (<0.5%), the terracotta regulates the humidity through the wall, for a healthy indoor air and not a vector of pathologies, reinforced by the Hydrophobic qualities of rockwool. It also does not contain any nutrients necessary for the growth of molds, another advantage for the healthiness of the indoor atmosphere.

In addition, the CLIMAmur® range, 100% natural, 100% mineral and free of VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) has been labeled A +, and Excell Zone Verte at the Gold level, for its exemplary contribution to quality Indoor air; Real guarantees of a healthy habit, free of mold, with a permanently protected mineral insulation and a stable temperature for a pleasant winter and summer comfort.

Finally, the alliance of the terracotta (100% natural) and the rock wool (100% mineral) CLIMAmur® has a real power in terms of acoustic comfort, for a healthy, comfortable and peaceful habitat.

Easy implementation that combines lightness and competitiveness

These CLIMAmur® grinders with lightweight shreds and vertical perforations are easily handled with weights of only 17.1 kg for the thickness 42 cm, 14.7 kg for the thickness 36 cm and 12.1 Kg for the thickness 30 cm.

A great advantage for the masons: CLIMAmur® is much less heavy than other bricks or cinder blocks.

This new generation of Porotherm Distributed Thermal Isolation bricks is also accompanied by a complete range of accessories to ensure top performance insulation (planks, roller shutter boxes, lintel-columns, flanges, half bricks ...).

3 questions to ...

... to José Martoran, CEO of Arcade, Real Estate Engineering firm of Ban-Saint-Martin (57)

You build each year about ten individual houses, you are solicited for extensions / renovations and tertiary real estate. What is the common thread of your accomplishments?

From the construction of our first Monomur® brick house in 1998 until the construction of three CLIMAmur® brick houses in 2013, Arcade has always relied on Wienerberger innovations. This expertise has specialized us in constructions of superior quality, low consumption or passive.

What are the characteristics of CLIMAmur® that speak to builders and owners?

Those who implement are seduced by this brick, much less heavy and thicker than a Monomur® brick of 42.5 while offering 20% ??more insulation.

It also has the advantage of reducing the footprint of the frame, in order to offer a better investment in terms of livability. The occupants themselves are seduced by both the energy performance and the much higher comfort of life provided by this brick.

On the one hand CLIMAmur® naturally aids the habitat thanks to the inertia of the walls which store heat and redistribute it for free.

On the other hand, by providing natural insulation and reducing thermal bridges, the bricks significantly reduce energy consumption to easily achieve BBC or passive performance.

Choosing CLIMAmur®, is it sustainable?

Certainly ! First, because of its respect for the environment, since this brick meets all the thermal requirements, and its characteristics bring real benefits: a good airtightness thanks to the plastering of the walls, a reduction of the thermal bridges thanks to the Alveoli which form very useful compartments for the passage of electric wires ... All these qualities increase the final performance of the project, up to the positive energy.

When we have the opportunity to show a project in the construction phase - when the brick is still visible - we mark points of confidence vis-à-vis the future owners. C is very reassuring a frame of this thickness, alveoli filled with natural insulation, finishes of this quality and ultimately, a home that breathes, which does not release any VOC, which does not generate any mold! Combining lasting comfort and demanding performance, we succeed in building homes made to last for a long time.

... at Brigitte Vu, Teacher at the Technological University of Belfort-Montbéliard, manager of Batireco-BBC, expert in energy efficiency of buildings

How did you compare the benefits of different constructive materials?

Together with my thermal engineering firm Batireco, we have built some thirty houses with the BBC Effinergie label throughout France and have instrumented about ten of them to have real data and compare the advantages of each building system.

After analyzing these results, I strongly advise the insulating structure brick.

Explain to us its strengths in terms of comfort and health?

The enormous advantage of distributed insulation bricks is the absence of condensation inside the wall, which ensures healthy indoor air and repels the risk of pathologies or allergies related to indoor air quality . In addition, with CLIMAmur® built-in rockwool, the quality and stability of this insulation are guaranteed over time because the water connected to the condensation does not stagnate inside the wall.

Another major asset associated with terracotta and rockwool, the accumulated water vapor permeance will naturally dry at the return of higher temperatures, avoiding any stagnation of dew points and moisture in the walls. The humidity level is thus maintained at its ideal level of comfort ...

Speaking of natural air conditioning is really appropriate since you actually see more than 4 ° C less in a brick house in high heat than in a traditional blockhouse!

This phenomenon is related to the thermal phase shift, ie the time taken by heat to penetrate into the interior.

This time is estimated between 8 and 14 h for a brick (at night when it is possible to aerate, the interior temperature of the house will be lowered and there will in fact not be overheating in summer) Will take 4 hours to cross a cinder block and overheat the interior of the house in the middle of the day.

In your opinion, the comfort of a home must prevail when choosing a material?

The construction budget is of course important, but with CLIMAmur®, future owners make the best choice to combine real energy savings, excellent comfort and optimal indoor air quality!

If we add to this the saving of implementation time in Masonry Rolled®, the absence of insulation reported and the energy savings, there is no hesitation!
