GAUSSIN and BA Systems develop the robots of the ports of the future for the transfer of containers

Tuesday, July 5, 2016

Description :

VASCO for "Supervised Automated Vehicle for Containers" is a "R & D Structuring for Competitiveness Project" (PSPC), which receives ? 8.8 million in assistance funded with ? 5.5 million (Subsidies and recoverable advances) under the Investments for the Future Program (PIA), operated by Bpifrance.

Carried out by GAUSSIN SA and BA Systèmes, VASCO is a collaborative innovation project in port robotics that aims to develop the first 100% automated system with infrastructure-free guidance for the transfer of containers in port terminals.
The solution proposed by VASCO should make it possible to drastically improve the productivity of container terminals and reduce their operating costs.
The Consortium:
- The CRYSTAL laboratories of the University of Lille 1 and IRCCyn of the École Centrale de Nantes will work on the automation and navigation of mobile robots (3 automated vehicles) as well as on the supervision of the system.
- The Lead Partner is GAUSSIN SA, accompanied by BA Systèmes. Their mission will be to design and implement a demonstrator consisting of a fleet of 3 automated vehicles, a supervisor and an automated powerpack change system. This demonstrator will evolve in 2017 in real conditions, first on the test site of Héricourt then on the port of Dunkerque (Terminal of Flanders).

Economic interests of the project:
The solution proposed by VASCO should make it possible to drastically improve the productivity of container terminals and reduce their operating costs.
Labels:
Bpifrance conducted the audit of the project at the end of which the public institution submitted a framework contract to the members of the consortium. The project was also labeled by three competitiveness clusters: Véhicule du Futur, i-Trans and Images & Réseaux.

The Future Investment Program, managed by the CGI, allocates a total of ? 550 million for the co-financing of Research and Development Projects for Competitiveness (PSPC) within the framework of the "Financing" action Innovative companies, strengthening of competitiveness clusters "of the Investments of the Future.

This action aims at supporting structuring R & D projects that generate direct economic and technological spin-offs in the form of new products, services and technologies and indirect spin-offs in terms of the sustainable structuring of sectors.

Partnership GAUSSIN - BA Systems for the automation of ports

The companies GAUSSIN and BA Systèmes announced in October 2014 the creation of a joint company, called PORT AUTOMATION SYSTEMS (PAS), whose objective is to associate the port equipment of the first with know-how in navigation without infrastructures (Robotic guidance and Fleet Management) of the second, in order to meet the growing worldwide demand for automation of port terminals.
